We also want to thank the Tab-master Jeff Saltzgaber for all of his hard work on figuring out these guitar tabs and sharing them with all of us!

We have recently come across some tabalatures for some Connells songs. As you can see, these are from other people, so we can’t validate how correct they are. If you have any more or any corrections, please let us know at onesimpleband@gmail.com

Coming home today, a season spent away, it is hard for me to see,
hard for me to say, I like your face, but I cant anymore.
It was quite a time, and I’m sure that I’m feeling bery clear for me,
very clear for you. I like your face, but I can’t anymore.

Chorus:
Let’s do it again
I will recall, there are things I could’ve done,
I will recall, there are things I could’ve shown

Did you find the time to keep us both in mind?
Did you wander far from me, wander far from you?

I like your face, but I can’t anymore.

Chorus

The dream is not to say I’ll take it any way,
a year is long enough for me, yet here we are today.
I like your face, but I can’t anymore.

This is a beautiful song from a group from my hometown of
Raleigh, NC. It is rumored to be about a young boy who
fell while riding his bike and landed in a deep ditch. A big rain came
and because he broke both of his legs, he could not get up from
the ditch and so the young boy drowned.  – jjwolf@eos.ncsu.edu

One Simple Word
Stone Cold Yesterday
Words & Music by Mike Connell
tab by Lynnette Noblitt
Transcribed by Tom Parker

This version is meant for one guitar. On the album, Mike Connell (Gtr. 1) plays straight chords, while
George Huntley (Gtr. 2 & 3) provides some tasty fills and a nice simple solo. I’ll tab fills for Gtr. 2

This song is most easily played w/ a capo on 2nd fret for Gtr. 1. All tabs (except for solo) are for
fingerings w/ capo. So what’s written as “A” sounds as a “B” chord, and so forth.

Waiting My Turn
Words and Music by Mike Connell
From The Connells album One Simple World
tab by Chris Ambrose

Note: The song is actually played a half step lower than shown here but this is the easier way to play it. If
you want to play along then transpose it down a half step.

The opening riff is the bass notes  G  F#  C  C   C   D  G
(If you can’t get it listen to the song– that goes for everything here.)

This same riff is used for the verse but with chords.
Use a full G, full G with F# bass, Cadd9(?), and D

Full G:–o– G with F#:–o– Cadd9:–o–
–o–           –o–       –o–
—–           —–       —–
—–           —–       -o—
-o—           —–       –o–
–o–           -o—       —–

The chorus is C  G  D  D  C   G   C

The outro is G C D G C D which changes to Em C D G Em C D G
after the first time through

Here’s the song:

G    G/F#    Cadd9   D
I asked her to stay here with me a while,  Oh she said no
These words mean nothing these thoughts won’t fly, O she said no
And where would this lead us to anyway, O she said no
Well I crossed the line in half the time and that’s insane
O she said

C   G    D    D    C   G   D(not C as above)
Hey now keep yourself in town, won’t you?
And daylight keep yourself in sight, won’t you?

G   G/F#   C add9   D
So I asked her to come back some other time,  O she said no
These words ring holloow these thoughts aren’t mine, O she said-

C    G    D    D    C   G    C
Hey now keep yourself in town, won’t you?
And daylight keep yourself in sight, won’t you?

outro:
G    C   D   G   C   D
So I’m sitting here and waiting my turn, Oh well maybe next time
G   C  D    Em   C  D   G
So I’m sitting here and waiting my turn, Oh well Maybe next time
Em   C   D  G  Em   C  D  G

’74-’75
Words and music by Mike Connell
From the Connells album Ring
tab sent in by Jan Morenzin

Note:  There are two opinions that I have heard about the beginning:  1. is that it starts with Am.  2.  the
other is E/G#.  While, I’m not really sure about the E/G# at the beginning, maybe it’s simply E.  I think that
more experienced guitar players could settle this.  Let me know.

Intro: 2x (something like that – i can’t play two guitars at once)

B         F#

2. Verse:

It’s not easy, nothing to say ’cause it’s already said
It’s never easy
When I look on your eyes then I find that I’ll do fine
When I look on your eyes then I do better

Chorus:

I was the one who let you know, I was your sorry ever after

Givin me more and i’ll defy, cause you’re really only after

——————————————————————————–

Note From Adrian “Siege” Chopin-John (100265.3202@compuserve.com)

The tablature provided by Uwe Friedrich is largely correct but I have a couple of alterations: in the first few
introductory bars, the lead guitar plays the following riff with the rhythm guitar supplying the marked
chords where  indicated:

C      G             Am     Asus2   Am
___________|_________|_____0____0_0__0_0_|
___________|_________|_____1____0_0__1_1_|
___________|_________|_____2____2_2__2_2_|
__2_0______|_________|_____2____2_2__2_2_|
0_____3_0_3|_________|0_0__0____0_0__0_0_|
___________|____3____|___________________|

His only other mistake seems to be at the bridge where the chords should
should read:

F                 C              Am                  F
When I look on your eyes then I find that I’ll do fine,

Am                C                       G
When I look on your eyes, then I’ll do better.

Firstly the guitar s are both tuned down 1 fret.

Secondly the chords played by the rhythm guitar during the intro are made up of only the three highest
strings. Playing them all makes the sound too heavy.  Finally, during the vocals, whenever there is an Am
chord at the end of a line as in:

F                  C                 Am
There’s no reason

The Am chord is followed by an Asus2 chord as in my tab for the intro.

Doin’ You
Words and music by George Huntley
from the Connells album Ring
tab by Ivan Katz

Doin’ You contains two different guitar parts, one is capoed on the 7th fret and the other is open.

Capo 7th fret:

Intro is an Em chord hammered on and then you appregiate the bottom  three strings.  Next the Verse
chord progression is   G,D,C,G,D,Em X 2
The chord progression for the chorus is G,D,C,D X 4… on the words
“Doin’ Time”  you play an Am and the after “Yeh!” you play Em, G,D X 4
Towards the end of the song “and she said ah!” you play Am.

The second guitar plays the open versions of the Capoed chords. They are as follows in parentheses.
Em(Bm) G(D) D(A) C(G) Am(Em).  Grab a friend and strum along.

Lyrics:
New Boy (M. Connell)

Sometimes I get the feeling things won’t fall apart.
Sometimes I think it’s gone too far.
Sometimes I get the feeling things seem pretty nice.
Then again sometimes I’d like to leave you twice.

Once we decide upon it
We won’t fall apart.
This time I think it’s gone too far.

And you get where you can’t decide–
Don’t ask any other.
And you get where you can’t decide.

Didn’t I say “sorry.”
Didn’t I say “dear.”
Didn’t I consider.
Didn’t I stand clear.
Didn’t you say “New boy get down on your knees.”
Didn’t I say “trying, I’m trying, I’m trying.”

Guitar 2:  This is mainly the riffs over guitar 1, and some inverted chords to play over Guitar 1 if you and a
buddy wanta Jam.

In my way
(Em )      (C) (Em) (C)    (D)
Damn it all…..Damn it all
(G)   (C)  (G)
What a life
(C) (G)            (Em)      (C)
And most of it forgotten
(G)   (C)  (G)               (C)
Bliss and then missed
(G)                    (Em)
And the rest is pretty rotten

Note the bridge chords, very easy riff in C.

(D)                               (G)
So they say I’m doing fine
(D)
And they say you’re a friend
(G)
Of mine
(D)
That’s very moving
(G)
But it’s not really soothing
(D)                         (G)
Insincere and colorblind
(D)              (A)
Hey, ain’t it funny
(D)  (A)      (G)
Everybody knows
(D)     (A)
How my skin shows
(D)                              (G)
So they say I’m doing fine
(D)
They’ve got nothing on me
(G)
But time
(D)
Time to talk about it
(G)
Yeah, that’s where I’m going
(D)                                   (G)
Do they really know how fine?
(D)             (A)
Hey, ain’t it funny

Curly’s Train
Words and Music by George Huntley
from the Connells album Still Life
Tab sent in by Jeff Saltzgaber

*For the right groove, you’ll want to
slide on your low E 2nd fret up to
the G chord. Listen to the music,
you’ll get it.
(G)                    (D)          (G)
24 in a car, in a car, in a car
(G)
Rolling on a mountain train
(D)                   (G)
Mountain train, mountain train
(G)
Curly asked where you were
(D)                        (G)
Where you were, where you are
(G)
Strolling outside of my brain
(D)                             (G)
Outside of my brain, outside of my brain
(C)
And everyone was reelin’
(C)
Oh, yes indeed we were
(G)
Why don’t we say it
(D)                       (C)
Screaming like a locomotive
(G)
Heaving and blowing
(A)                                    (D)
Turn it up and make a lonesome cry?
(D)                          (C)
Working up a head exploding
(G)
Heaving and blowing
(A)                             (D)
Doing what ever you please
(G)  (Gadd9)   (E)
Did you really want to lose it ?

The Intro/Break appears many times
within the song. It’s played between
verses and before the solo. Guitar 1
is above. Guitar 2 is just a few chiming
notes in your left speaker. It is easy to
pick out, I won’t tab it.

(E)                 (D)
It doesn’t matter
(A)                        (E)
If you are going to wait
(E)                (D)
But the lesson’s learned
(A)     (E)
And it seems ok
(E)             (D)
And you might not
(A)      (E)
Like this at all
(E)       (D)
But I never thought that
(A)                          (E)
Lennon cared much for Paul

(D)                (A)
Why don’t you beg out
(E)
Of your own disasters?
(D)           (A)
Hey now, hey now
(E)
Let it out, let it out
(D)                  (A)
Why don’t you lean onto
(E)               (B)
Your soul reactor, now?
(A)  (G)  (F#)

(E)         (D)
It doesn’t matter if
(A)                (E)
Your coming out
(E)                                (A)
When the whole damn world
(A)           (E)
Is still in doubt
(E)           (D)
It doesn’t matter if
(A)                   (E)
Push comes to shove
(E)           (D)
And the best there is
(A) (E)    (B)
Is the rest that was
(A) (G) (F#)

Still Life
Words and Music by Mike Connell
from the Connells album Still Life
Tab sent in by Jeff Saltzgaber

(G)(Gadd9) (Em) (D)

(Am)    (C)
It’s the way that you
(G)                        (D)
Repair the broken parts
(Am)    (C)               (G)    (D
It’s the way that you assemble
(Am)           (C)
And it’s the wandering
(G)                          (D)
That keys the stops and starts
(G)
Oh this still life
(C)
Has its virtues
(G)  (Gadd9)     (Em)
Cause everything in motion leaves
(C)             (D)
Or is just left behind
(G)                         (C)
And I don’t think it could hurt you
(Bm)      (C)     (Bm)   (C)
It gets colder (holding out)
(Am)         (C)
There are days that I
(G)                                (D
Remember what’s been lost
(Am)         (C)                    (G)    (D)
There are days that I’ve forgotten
(Am)          (C)
Like an old friend
(G)              (D)
That moved to Canada
(Bm)  (C)     (Bm)   (C)
And I held it up (Held it out)
(Bm)   (C)
And I’m spent

(Chorus)
